Thanks for that Chesh, your advice will be taken on board and ill sit tight for now before making any changes to my beloved PS3...
Wutangrza's implementation of the flukes1 patch is spot on as far as I can tell (haven't installed it yet, but I don't really have a need for it). It should work just like the dongles (i.e., if you don't load something special to peek/poke memory, it'll act just like an OFW). Doing it in memory also helps because you won't have to reflash the firmware if someone were to develop a better payload. I don't think that waninkoko's approach will ever work right, no matter what he does.
all we need is an pkg to poke payload into memory and wutangrzy's cfw will be the best option

Lol damn geohot may be a bit high on life but he said never to mess with lv2. I think this recent round of bricks is proof of that. Props to waninko for even trying to do something, but the best way to release a custom firmware on the PS3 tailored for 3.55 is testing with a NOR flasher. That way you can get a ton of people to test it, and if it bricks you can reflash. I'd wait a good few months before touching anything higher then a simple edit like geohot's method. The two best bets are flukes1 and geohot atm.
Again no disrespect to waninko but I'm glad I slept in because of a bad night. I was anticipating this release and I'm glad I waited.
Be patient fellas, good stuff comes to those who wait.
