Very new to this, where to start?

Hello everyone I'm Dan, I've had my PS3 sense the day it came out. I'm very new to this, I'm very computer literate. Please I'd like some information on where to start? What do I NEED to do to use these "dongle free" patches. What do I need to do to my system? I'd simply like to play backed up games and was just curious on how to go about this. If I posted in the wrong forum please direct me in a better direction for none of the others seemed to fit, thanks a ton!

If your firmware is at or below 3.55, then it's very easy. Just install Kmeaw or Rebug custom firmware. After that I can help you use the patches.

If you firmware is above 3.55, then it will be much harder. You will need to downgrade your firmware with a hardware flasher.

What firmware is on your PS3?

Thank you for the quick response, I just checked and am running 4.21, how awful is the downgrading?

It's pretty much the same procedure for downgrading any firmware that's above 3.55. It involves opening your PS3 and doing some soldering.

You could also send your PS3 to a trusted user which can downgrade for you at a price.

You do need to check what model your PS3 is and if your model CAN be downgraded.

I found a video online involving an "E3 Flasher" is this the method you're talking about?

I personally gave my PS3 to someone to downgrade and jailbreak for me with Rogero CFW, he also installed various popular packages like Multiman, Rogero Manager and FTPServer. Multiman and Rogero Manager for Backing up games and playing them discless. FTPServer for transferring files over to the PS3.

You're going to need to know if you can play your backup, check to see if you can play the backup of your desired game here.
