Value of a 3.41 PS3? –
Over the weekend I picked myself up a second PS3 as while I enjoy using my JB'd one, there are some games releasing in coming months that I do really want to play so that plan was to run a second that is completely legit and on the latest firmware.
Anyway, the new (to me, it was purchased off a family member who go it because they liked playing Buzz with me but have barely ever used it since) PS3 is a 40gb Fat model (I have a spare 120gb drive at home that might upgrade it with though) and it is still on FW 3.41.
Obviously with each passing day, more PS3's get upgraded and the number of hackable consoles becomes less.
I have had the thought that should I upgrade this console then that is just one less available for hacking and have considered a swap with someone who is seeking a hackable console.
What is the availability of 3.41 and earlier consoles and what would you consider a fair trade? This console has hardly ever been used, has never been refurbished, works perfectly etc.
Obviously I am looking to get something out of this trade, if I were to swap for another console of the same age and use just with 3.50 then it really isn't worth the effort and I'll just upgrade.
Would it be too much to suggest a straight trade for a new PS3 Slim?
I'm not sure if you would be given the best possible deal immediately but if you hold back for a few weeks/possibly a month, you may be given better value for your 3.41 PS3 (i.e. someone might trade you a new one as you suggested or possibly pay you a nice sum of money). With that said, it definitely carries a risk .
What if the scene happens to find an exploit in the newer firmware versions...Of course for you, that probably won't make a huge difference, but you may have missed out on a chance of exchanging/selling your 3.41 PS3 for more than its worth.
For the time being, I would ideally look for money as opposed to a trading since the price of new consoles are probably just going to drop/you can wait for some good bundles with possibly the move although if someone did give you a new slim for the FAT PS3 I would take that as well because of the potential YLOD issue...
Well they already have found a way to play 3.42 games supposedly, so i doubt a 3.41 ps3 would be worth any more than a up to date 2nd hand one.
The 3.15 consoles are going for a bit, but supposedly we are going to get os features back soon, maybe in a small cfw.
So i doubt it is worth any more really, other than people who may be ignorant to the current situations in the ps3 scene.
Lol I love your last sentence...

Anyways I say hold onto it for another month and see what happens...
@Bowhuntr11 , lol.
I can see how it would be lol.
For now, pre-3.42 should cost exactly as much as post-3.41 just because it's no problem now to buy the earlier at all.
The situation may change only after a certain amount of time and if a post-3.41 hack won't be found.
Here in KSA we have Ps3 40 GB (i think it's a repaired console) with firmware below 3.41
only for 950 SAR
950 Saudi riyals = 253.33365 U.S. dollars
i will buy one today for online
bought it , and it is in 2.80 XD

Consoles in the shop now are all 3.41 or earlier.
So no you shouldn't be asking for more...and it's quite a dislikeable post really since your not exactly that sharp for assuming you'd get anymore for at least a couple of months.
