v2.10, update fails, open to suggestions?
v2.10, update fails, open to suggestions? –

When I bought older 40gb fat PS3 cheap since the previous guy could not get it updated from 2.20. I just wanted to use it as USB media center and OtherOS for Linux, Mame and stuff, I was thinking great.
NOW, that I found FBAnext native emulation, since OtherOS is back, thought I'd try updating, jailbreak, and run FBAnext.
BUT, it will not update. Gets to 3% and crashes with 8002f147. Tried everything
- USB
- Hard reset
- format NTFS on windows (99%, did not complete)
- full format on PS3
- Safe Mode not option till 2.50
Funy thing, after all that, it now says v2.10.
Other guy here had similar issue and thought is was NAND flasher/chip..
SO, I'm guess if I can not flash with update, then I cannot JAILBREAK, from any version?
Any other ideas/suggestions? Guess back to Plan A with Other OS Yellow Dog Linux (YDL)??

You can try this, as it is the correct way to update.
- Format a USB device to FAT32. You can use this program, or purchase SwissKnife : --> http://tinyurl.com/3h34xna
- Place the update on USB device (example: x:/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UDAT.PUP) <<- I needs to be in those folders, and named exactly like that, PS3UPDAT.PUP
- Remove the device SAFELY, if you have that option
- Place USB device into further right (closest to disc drive) port
A: Install via XMB
or
B: Install via Recovery Mode (hold the PS button down while turning on the console, and allow it to beep twice (could be three) times)

take out the hard drive
connect hard drive to pc (running windows 7 64bit, but any windows os should work without other software)
open up disk management - in win7 it asked me to make a master boot record, so I did.
format in NTSF - that's right, NTSF - don't use quick format
shut down pc, take out hd, take usb drive too
put hd back in ps3, put usb stick in ps3
boot ps3
a screen will pop-up saying the hard disk have to be formatted
hold start + Select for 5 sec.
After formatting the system will restart and the update will start installing
configure your ps3 setup - done
FYI the pup should be name PS3UPDAT

OK, already tried all this
Only thing, after formatting HDD to NTSF and rebooting PS3, it did mention HDD did need to be reformatted (did a quick format), but don't remember it automatically going into a system update. I did try the select-start, possibly at the wrong time, but nothing happened. Like I say, funny thing is it did say v2.20, it now says v2.10, if anything did happen, I supposedly had v2.55 on stick downloaded from link in this site.
Another guy here who seems to know what he is doing had similar issue

wouldn't let me post link

I think you are on the right track with that other thread. After various forum hunts it seems that that error code usually ends up being nand issues. They are all almost exclusively older fat PS3's. Good luck on your hunt for the answer. Please post any info you find as this has me interested now.
