I'm trying to use .srt files for some movies, but unfortunatly it takes ages for mkv2vob to transcode the movie with a subfile.
Is there a solution to load subtitles without transcoding the whole movie?

no ps3 only solution?
check out the post by hamletiii here:
Does PS3 support external subtitles (sub/idx, srt)? [Archive] - Doom9's Forum
could be helpful.

looks like autoGK is the way to go. and i guess burning subs into an AVI could be quick. i've never done it though.
you better report back with your success. i didnt just spend 30 seconds googling to not know whether it works or how long it takes to burn subs![]()
well burning subs into mkv needs ~ 10mins for a 20min file (and i'm using a quad-core for transcode)
Well, I have my tv shows in mkv (720p files) and if im lazy and not in the mood to watch them without subs, i download the machting .srt files from well kniown subtitle sites...
Mkv2Vob has an option to transcode them, but 20min for a regular tv episode is too long for me.
(My PC is connected to my TV, same as my PS3 - so i can watch anything without my ps3, but i thought if i can watch them easily on my ps3 too... thought it is nice to use my ps3 for this job)
i mean the last thing i can say on this is that if you try ps3 media server using TSmuxer, it will give you subs on the fly as you stream the mkv to the ps3 and there will be 0 loss in quality. i use a P4 system to stream my crap so i'm sure your quadcore can handle it too
Not sure if it's what you want but maybe have a look at multiAVCHD. It can be picky with the video spec requirements, but that's the ps3's/avchd's fault.
It's made by deank, the guy who made the BM multiman...
My quad can handle this - but there is no point for me.
I can watch my movies on my quad, so streaming to ps3 and watch them from there is useless for me.
I just want to copy the movies to my usb drive because i could use my quad for cpu-intensive things while i watch movies on my ps3.
