Goddamit. So my lens is faulty and when I start a demo my ps3 goes black and I have to restart my ps3. Is it my lens ? Do I have change to a new lens to make my games work ? Cause I'm considering of buying a new lens by the end of this month.
There does seem to be this strage requirement to have a fully working laser in order for the homebrew to work. To be it just doesnt make any sense?

No, if your laser is dead (even if you have never replaced your drive/board), apps and homebrew won't load at all. As stated in my previous post, I'm talking about dead lasers, not broken blu-ray drives. And I'm not misleading anybody, this is from a correct source. If you actually claim that dead lasers with correct/working blu-ray drives will load apps and homebrew, then you're misleading people.

Thanks buddy, so are you saying that it is just the fact that the laser is semi dead is causing the black screen? it seems very strange that just a read issue would be able to cause such a problem for the machine/homebrew??

I know it doesn't make sense. A dead laser not allowing homebrew to run, lol. But it's just how PS3 works, I guess.
You can buy a laser separately (doesn't come with a blu-ray drive), it can be sold on many sites. These PS3 lasers are kinda expensive, too. One would cost around £30 ($47?).
bugger! lol, i guess i will have to start saving then eh! do you think this is something the clever devs maybe able to get around or could you really not say?

This is a complete guess, by the way.
Is it possible that the devs can fix it? Possbily... because why on the earth would PS3 need information from its blu-ray drive, when homebrew are usually located inside the HDD (not on a disc)? Maybe, it's because of the way how an original psjailbreak payload works.

Hi guys first post!
My drive try to takes to cd in but just cd turns right at the entrance of the bd drive and pushes out again. since I have a little boy at home possibly he tried to fill up with something but when i opened up th bd player i didnt see anything. do they sell only the tracks or mechanism inside? And everything works fine with hermes. i can start all the programs but sometimes i get a black screen but i press eject button and passes and program starts.
So if i have black screen i just press the eject button and starts fine..
If you open it you will probably find 5 of your long-lost discs inside.

I have a PS3 40gb with a broken blu ray drive.
