Use dongle or wait for QA flag downgrade?

I just want to hear some people's opinions on this

A friends blu ray drive died a while ago i replaced the laser but a week later it died again. So now he has to play games discless. (he is on 3.55 Rebug CFW) But ive heard that you have better discless support on 3.41. Since you dont need a dongle for this anymore i want to downgrade to Rebug 3.41.2 or hermes. so here comes the question.

Is it worth it to buy a dongle just to downgrade, or should he wait till we could downgrade trough QA flagging, or do you still have better discless support using a dongle. If not whats the best CFW for discless suport.

Please dont say to tell my friend to buy a new PS3. Because i allready told him that ALLOT!

Just buy a dongle because you might be waiting a long time for a software downgrader. I sell them. I'll sell it for $13 shipped. I have a maximus avr usb.

I'd buy a dongle and a new bluray drive and downgrade to remarry the drive. But if he doesn't want to get a new drive, just get a dongle and downgrade.

I just hope the QA flag doesnt get released when i orderd the dongle

you could always use linux to boot it into service mode for free then put lv2diag files on usb and GOGOGOO!

I wouldnt know how to do that, i didnt even know it was possible

but i wil look into it

But the problem is its a 256mb Nand PS3. Ive read some people bricked there ps3's with the new method, so i guess i will have to wait a litte longer. Just to be save.

I've had to downgrade my ps3 and some friends and we all, except 1, had a 256 NAND PS3 and neither bricked. Just follow the instruction VERY carefully, even though it's easy. It's about 8 steps that it's really hard to mess up on. A brick could be the cause of an inconsistent download or no following the steps. But what I'd do is install 3.55 OFW then do the downgrade. That's what I did.

Are we still talking about downgrading with linux? Cause i know with the dongle there is "no risk" But i just think its useless to buy a dongle now. Since there is otheros++ 264 NAND suport now. And i think the QA flag method cauld be found anytime now. but this is making me paranoid

I also saw that you could downgrade a PS3 with a PSP so im going to try that. (after i figured out how to JB the PSP) The PS3 is a old CECHG08 model so i could downgrade to 3.15 to remarry the blu ray drive right? I saw a tabel (picture) of models + stock fimwares yesterday but i cant find it anymore...

Edit: I succesfully downgraded my PS3 with PS3JIG (PSP) But i still hope QA flagging comes out soon
