USB Dongle 2 JB? 3.55 Kiosk/Demo Convertable?

I have a couple dumb questions. Sorry, I've searched and read so much, but cannot find the answers.

Do I need a usb dongle specifically designed to jb a ps3 for the initial CFW installation? If so, what do they cost; models suggested?

I'm thinking about buying a $200 demo/kiosk ps3 from ebay. If it has 3.55 demo firmware, can I still convert it to retail? Or are there any better deals for used ps3's anyone can recommend? Any help is greatly appreciated.

all u need is a basic flash drive for your firmware... google mfwbuilder2 and u can convert a demo ps3 to retail with it

Awesome Thanks I wasn't sure about the 3.55 convert. I saw this post (3.55 kiosk console), but the poster only has 8 posts and wasn't sure if it was trustworthy.

all you need is an external usb hard drive or a flash drive and you're good to go

Oh, thanks lite. I must have overlooked that thread when I was checking your posts.

As far as buying a ps3, what do you guys think I should do? Any good deals I'm not aware of? I was just going to try eBay for maybe a used or a demo/kiosk one. Are these less reliable? I hear the lead-free soldering tends to break down more easily than leaded solder. Should I just wait till the price comes down more the next few years? Thx.

So what are the dongles used for? Downgrading the OFW? Is the only way to downgrad the firmware by use of a special dongle device or is a flash drive okay for that as well?
