Urgent help required

Hi guys im working on a stricked time limit here because i have just bought another ps3 to use online with out telling my wife and she will kill me if its not out the way before she finishes work in 3 hours time

i know i would find my answers if i searched but as i just said im working on a time limit so i apologise now.

ok im currently running a 120gb slim on 3.55 with geohot/wutangraz however i cant play online.

i have just bought a ps3 fat 60gb warrenty seal intact with b/c on 3.41 never jailbroke for £25

It has a faulty br drive wont read any thing, this is where i need advise

i have a spare drive from another 60Gb bc model that semi works (some times it reads disk, some times not)

Options

1.shall i change drives and put the semi working one in faulty ps3

2.Shall i just upgrade my slim to 3.6 for psn and upgrade faulty ps3 from 3.41 to 3.55 for kmeaw and use faulty ps3 for cfw

3. which ps3 should i use for cfm and ofm slim or fat?


Questions

1. can i upgrade faulty ps3 from 3.41 to 3.55 with a faulty br drive with out bricking?

2. whats the compatibility rate with diskless games using kmeaw and latest multiman like these days?

3. could upgrading firmware possibly fix a bad blu ray drive?

please guys any advise would be great like i said i know the answers are already here in the forums but time is sooooo tight if she finds out im in the shit

My advise it upgrade the slim and use the 60GB verson for homebrew/backups. If it's on 3.41 then ether use a dongle or install Hermes CFW 3.41 and go discless for gaming on it as I have that setup myself:

320GB Slim - 3.60 OFW Clean w/PSN
60GB (upgraded to 250GB) Launch Fat - 3.41 w/Minimus v1 Dongle - Disconnected
40GB Fat (Re-flowed) - 3.60 Clean w/PSN - being used as a media player and PSN chat box

Discless compatibility on 3.41 is by far the best, I have to use a disc for only 1 of my 10 games backed up on my external HDD. On Kmeaw it isn't so great really, apparently only a very small percentage work discless.

That should eradicate the problems with the drive, though if you hammer it you'll end up killing the fat ps3 all together. So it depends on how much time you use your PSN enabled vs your hacked console really.

If you normally hammer the hacked one for hours on end then keep the slim hacked and upgrade the fat, otherwise go the other route.

Just my opinion.

You'll have to use a lvl2 patch that'll let the firmware skip the blurat drive check. Or else itll just fail

OK SO i managed to upgrade to 3.55 official then to kmew 3.55 cfm i installed latest multiman and BDEMU.pkg both installed fine

when i plug my external hdd in i can see all my games but none of them work, i have a disk in drive. when i press select+x to start a game is just says verifying game data then sends me back to xmb when i click on game to start it it just black screens

any ideas? maybe because my br drive is faulty?

also on my wutangraz/geohot ps3 i have bbc iplayer and itv player but their not their on kmew shall i try wutangraz/geohot or is it because my drive is knackered i know the games work cos they all work flawlessly on my other ps3?

you NEED the bluray drive to work. Try seeing if you can find a bluray drive with a working laser.

But make sure it's for the right PS3 model

Did you use the fixpermissions.pkg file? I was getting that error until I ran that.
