Upgrading HDD –
As stated in my last thread, I got a new PS3 120GB just for JB. I've already backed up about half of my collection, but I am already running out of room (damn you FF13).
If I upgraded the HDD now, would I be able to transfer over everything from the original drive? All my packages + backed up games?
I guess I could just re-do everything. Though it took me a good half a day already -_-
Nope, you wouldn't be able to backup anything unless you had a 3rd drive that could hold the data in the interim. If you did have one, you should be able to run the backup utility in the System XMB menu to an external drive, put the new drive into your PS3, format, restore. I'm pretty sure the backup utility backs up all game data from dev_hdd0/game, which is also where your BM and your games folder resides (if you're using one of the managers that saves into there). If you have the drive to do this though, you should be able to just compare disk space used and you'd know if it backed up everything or not.

Thank you Geohot and fail0verfl0w for fully hacking the PS3.
Uh, ok guys, I understand the *process*. I know how to back up the data to another drive and format a new drive (I have done it before), but thanks for your help.
What I am asking is if anyone actually *knows* if I will have to do the process of ripping my games over again. Again, not a big deal if I do, but it would be nice to know if I can just do the transfer and be good to go and not have to do another whole day of ripping my games.
I've just upgraded my phat 60gb to 500gb. What I did was after I swapped it over and formatted the drive, I JB it and installed a backup manager and FTP software. Then I just transferred my games to it via FTP. Meant I could queue them all and then leave them whilst it sorted itself out.
Was rather painless in then end.
