upgrading firmware deletes backups?

Im on currently on 3.41 slim model ps3 witha 640GB internal hard drive. im currently using the rockbox form jailbreak tools and was thinking about upgrading to 3.55 but was wondering would i lose all of my current backups that i have saved? i really dont wanna lose all of the games i have backed up already. I already lost them once when i upgrading my hard drive to the 640gb thinking my backups on my internal 120gb would be still saved as i used it for external uses but had to be reformatted as soon as i removed it from the ps3 and replaced the 640.

Do not think that's a good idea. why change a system with full functionality for one that is still in testing and that soon Sony will launch an upgrade that will let this new firmware with the same capabilities as yours?

Your backups won't get deleted.

You won't be able to use them though as there are as of now no backup loaders for 3.42+ (that work reliably). It looks like they will be working in the next 2-3 days the way things are going. When that time comes u got nothing to worry about upgrading your firmware.

UNLESS

You are doing a downgrade->upgrade (as it seems some of the current CFW would like you to do)

lol, saying your backups would be deleted while upgrading your firmware is the same as saying your pictures, movies, music, gamesaves, etc. will be deleted.

firmware doesn't delete anything that is on your HDD.

Well, it depends on what you're doing with the firmware. If you're just updating to a newer version then things will be fine. If you're downgrading(PSGrade), then you can lose your game backups. I always backup to PC no matter what. ;)
