Updating without ban

I wan't to update my ps3 from 3.42 to the latest 3.56. What is the best and most secure way to do this? I don't want the possibility to be banned. Should I do some kind of complete reset?

Format your PS3 hdd via a computer or recovery mode and then upgrade.

Are people upgrading to the latest OFW actually being banned? I am thinking of doing it from 3.55 Kmeaw.
I have been using the DNS trick but once that is gone I'll have to update to get PSN access. Can I get banned?

So far the only reports of people getting banned on OFW are cheaters. If you've used the platinum trophey hack, COD:BO glitches, or any of the other glitches, you'll get banned from their servers if not from PSN completely (depending on the severity of your cheating).

Ok. That's good to know... I haven't done any of that so I should be safe

Btw, should I go first to 3.55 OFW and then update, or can I go straight to 3.56?

Always go to OFW before doing any updates.

not seeing the problem here. 3.42 wasn't modded so technically upgrading 3.42 to 3.56 there would be no reason for you to expect that you would be banned.

At the moment everyone's speculating on invisible pink unicorns, no one has been banned from PSN, tomorrow they may decide to ban everyone. Who knows.
I think the only thing we can say so far is it can't be an easy job or the ban hammer would of been swung quite a while ago.
