I always just ignore those msgs to update a game i'm playing but now i do need to update some coz of MOVE compatibility etc..
Never done it before but i read that i cannot just put the pkg into my usb and then run it in the ps3..i've searched and it seems you cannot just do a 'install pkgs' from the menu? I need to use something like ps3 demoinstaller, ftp the pkg to ps3, install, replace eboot.bin...some other mumbojumbo...
they also need to be in a chain...1.01, then 1.02...so on....crap some games have like 5 or more..
Is that still the same or has there been progress on this front?
Also, can we install retail pkg or only demo?
Exactly what you said is what needs to be done. Some games will need files moved around to work after an update. Generally if that's the case, there's already a thread on here about it (just about every move game). As for succession updating, yep, that's the only way to do it. And, generally speaking, you want to install the retail updates. Every now and again, you'll have to install a debug update in order to get games with 3.50 checks in them working.
argh really?...some other people say just put in usbstick and install or something...
so after using demoinstaller, i can just transfer it to the ps3 using usbstick right?...then no need that ftp step
Wasnt it possible not long ago to connect games to the internet and download the patch's for them? Is that no longer doable??
No its still possible - I used it just yesterday (retail updates patches only). No need for all that demo-installer nonsense - that's akin to taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut
