    hey guys
im a bit worried about getting banned.
i have been transferring games via ftp and the internect connection needs to be enabled on the ps3 for this work...so is it possibly i could get banned simply by connecting to ftp rather than going on the ps3 network

    please let me know

    thanks

You can block your PS3 from the internet and yet keep it connected to the LAN. Don't worry about the fact the PS3 XMB says enable/disable internet connection, it actually just means LAN connection.

Now to make sure your PS3 is not calling Sony, change your DNS servers to something random (1.1.1.1 and 2.2.2.2), or block the PS3 from the internet via your router. Not to mention you could block the Sony URLs via your router.

If you are really worried then manually configure the IP information on the PS3 and put in a blank or wrong address for the default gateway. That is a surefire way to know the PS3 cant get to the internet.

if you connect with a cross-over (what in essence is a pc to pc connection) and disconnect your internet cable there's no way for the ps3 to connect to the internet

Ensure you don't change it to 8.8.8.8
Google runs a public DNS server on that ip and your PS3 will be able to access the internet..

Yes, you will get banned. In fact a sony employee has already logged your ip and your ps3s mac adress and has already dispatched a unit to go into your house and break your ps3.

    Good tip.

However it just occured to me that if the PS3 is calling specific Sony IPs, then changing the DNS in such a manner would do jack shit.

You understand the risk you take the risk now accept the risk

As with Xbox 360 you dont want to be banned then have many machines one to play the games you didnt buy and homebrew and one for online. If the profile can be stored on usb problem solved.
