Total Noob with two questions

I was read that only the 3.55 fw could be cfw jailbroken and anything above 3.55 could not be jailbroken without the use on a dongle. I have a phat 3.66 just got it from a friend. Question is since i can not cfw and since i need a dongle to run backups from the HDD.

1) Is there any reason that I should not update to 4.20 or 4.21 and get full use out of the PS3?

2) What USB dongle do i need in order to play my backups from HDD?

1. Kinda. I mean, the lower the firmwares, the better chance of it being cracked, i.e. less measures have been taken by sony to patch up things. I personally would probably update though cause it might be a while til something comes along and people are probably trying to work on the latest firmware they can to have the most use for people.

2. No dongle is needed to play backups from external or internal drive on 3.55. Is that what you're asking?

I think he thinks dongles are used for jailbreaking consoles with 3.56 or over. ykgreene, you cant jailbreak ps3's over 3.55 without downgrading back down to 3.55 with a hardware flasher, but if you can wait a few weeks something might be coming from E3 team, no promises though.
