ok becuase i have my 60 bc over heating ps3 near my open window which is atleast -4 or 5 out. Dont know if its hurting it, or not becuase as soon as i close the window it heats so much that it hurts to the touch. But when the windows open it cools it down so much the fan does not even kick in
I'm not sure about the temp censor access on the console, but I would assume it's just a matter of looking into the debug options for that..
If your PS3 is acting up like that, without immediate attention your risking killing the unit.. Open it up (or have a knowledgeable friend do it) and clean and re-apply thermal compound on the CPU/GPU and whatever is under a heat sink. and hope it helps with that. But you probably have a venting / dust issue in there.. My console temp went down a good 10-12 degrees just by changing the grease (using a temp probe).
Look into internal maintenance to help keep your unit in good condition
I never owned a PS3 until recently, but I have been doing hardware work on them for a few years now..
Cheers,
JB
that would be a great idea. It sounds like you need a reflow on your rsx chip
Back to the OP question for a sec, I doubt a temp app would be that accurate anyway as surely the unit generates heat according to the load the processors are under, so running a CPU/GFX intensive game would make the temp readings different, and that the temp app would need to be running alongside the game(multitask), to give any kind of accurate result, which AFAIK the PS3 cannot do...
BTW, if you do decide to use your heat gun, keep it on a low setting. I put my Draper heat gun on 600 degrees when n00b doing a 360, and it cooked it/never worked again, just go steady!
