Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone can answer my questions.
I have a 60gb PAL PS3 and a 60gb NTSC PS3 both backwards compatible and have both PAL and NTSC games respectively. What I want to know is, can I use swap magic to load original PAL PS2 games on my NTSC 60gb and vice-versa? This is nothing to do with backups, I am aware of loading games off a USB HDD or via network which I have no problem with but I am just thinking is it possible to load legit games from different regions on different systems? I have both the PAL and NTSC versions of Swap Magic 3.6.
Thanks to anyone that helps.
you gotta open the ps3 to do it. just saying
according to reports, that is
Damn, that's crazy. I heard about that but I thought that was the non-swap magic method? I find it bizarre that we can load games from an external HDD and even via network on PS3 via swap magic but not do something as simple as this!
Thanks for the info though!
But you can always change the region of your PS3 to PAL if you just want to use a PAL game on the NTFS system. But you have a PAL system so, kinda lost here
I bought an NTSC 60gb because the PAL PS3's 60gb backwards compatibility for PS2 games sucks compared to the NTSC one. Tekken Tag for example runs on my PAL 60gb at about 10-15fps and fully 60fps on my NTSC.
Check this video out to see what I mean as the US original 80gb models are identical in their PS2 playing ability to PAL 60gb PS3s:

This is why I was wondering, can I run my PAL games on my NTSC 60gb via Swap Magic?
You might not need swap magic. Use either ftp or a file manager to copy your xregistry.sys to your computer/flash drive and edit the region to PAL. I might work. Your PS3 will think itself as a PAL machine, or you could use a rebug firmware to change your region easily.
Sounds a bit risky lol but I shall look into it. Cheers!
It's actually fairly safe. If you use the rebug method, the worst that can happen is that you pick the wrong region, like Japan, and then you gotta learn Japanese :D
lol that's true! I just can't wait for the day that we can run PS2 backups off a HDD like we can now do with PS1 games via Cobra. *sigh* but that day may never come...
I've been using SwapMagic 3.6 and OPL 0.7 just fine, no need to open machine or anything. Naturally I have PAL SM disks and a PAL PS3.. so I'm not sure if a PAL set of SM disks will work on an NTSC PS3. Open PS2 Loader has a game menu similar to that of the original Jailbreak Backup Manager, but as long as SwapMagic loads on your system, you can launch PS2 backups direct from your external HDD -- any region games will work.
