Recently ordered a jailbreak advice, so I'm looking to replace my 40gb internal hard drive on my ps3 phat to increase memory.

Just wondering is their specific internal hard drives out their that will run well when playing back ups. As I've read some internal drives can cause lag when playing backs up.

So just wondering if anyone could recommend the best internal hard drive ideally a 250gb if not 500gb then.

Thanks and sorry if this question has been asked 10000times!

Any 2.5" SATA HDD that's 9.5mm thick will do. Only get 5400 RPM drives as the 7200 ones can cause YLOD and stuttering. Also, stay away from any of the WD Green series of drives (Eco friendly). They have automatic spin downs that will cause stuttering too.

WD blue series is also a problem disk. Samsung and seagate are the best ones for the ps3 I guess.

I use a WD Blue series 640gb and never had a single problem with any of the troublesome games like Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain. I guess I lucked up on my end as they have always been good in the jtag's I have done. Not sure why they are so problematic with the PS3.

I use WD Blue myself (500GB) and have never had an issue.

I bought one of those 500gb Seagate Freeagent Go drives from walmart and just popped it open. The only thing holding it together was sticky double sided tape, and it only costs about 60 bucks.

Comes apart really easily with a flat-headed screw driver.
