Strange HD Swap auto Downgraded Rogero 4.41 to 4.40 1.03
Had a strange incident earlier, just wondering why it happened, maybe it's a common occurrence, not sure, any insight would be appreciated. I had a 160GB HDD on my PS3 Phat at Rogero CFW 4.40 1.03 and I decided to upgrade the drive to a 500GB. I didnít transfer saves and such just FTPíd my games over to pc and intended to do start with a clean slate and just put back the games. I turned PS3 off and installed the blank 500GB, had a USB prepped with 4.40 1.03. Inserted drive, and proceeded to re install 4.40 1.03 on to the new drive.
I figured I could swap out the drive (according to the release info of the CFW) and put my previous one back in since it was the same exact firmware version. I was going to do that the next day so I could grab my game saves etc. Anyway, so the very next day, Rogero 4.41 1.0 was released. I formatted my USB completely, placed the new CFW on it, did an Md5 check and upgraded my ps3 to 4.41 1.0 (my 500GB). I did it right away because I figured I could log into my PSN account for a quick few minutes, download all my paid games then block PSN like I did before. I did this, all was working great. I got my games from PSN that I purchased onto the new drive, then disabled the auto log in to prevent future banning.\
Anyway so with all this occurring, It didnít cross my mind that if I was to swap my HDD back with the 160GB, it might be a problem now since that drive was used with CFW 4.40 1.03 and PS3 now was 4.41 1.0. Kind of got nervous because of the possibility that I would not be able to read my game saves on the older drive, thinking the ps3 would make me format. Anyway so I plugged in older drive. And PS3screen came up again telling me to insert firmware 4.41 or higher and to press START and SELECT simultaneously. Keep in mind this drive was 4.40 1.03. anyway after the update went through, used the same USB and firmware I did on the new drive, I was pleased to see ps3 boot up with my previous drive with all my games and homebrew and saves still intact, but of course 4.41 1.0 now with both drives.
Okay so now comes the strange part. this may not be a big deal, as I have been busy lately out of the ps3 scenes so It may be common thing, or maybe not, but I copied all my old drive saves and trophyís to pc through ftp and USB, then turned ps3 off and re inserted the 500GB so I could transfer the saves and trophyís etc. Assumed the ps3 would just boot right into the menu screen since both drives were now exact same CFW. But sadly it gave me the screen with the press Start and select to install the firmware... is this process always going to need to be done when I swap drives'?
I was under the impression that I just needed to turn ps3 off, swap drives and turn back on and be able to use both drives without that whole process... anyway BUT this is the strange thing. When it said to Press START and SELECT and to insert a media with update for 4.40 or Higher this time. ( NOT 4.41) that didnít make sense, both drives when connected made me insert 441 1.0 CFW but NOW the 500 gb which was 4.41 theps3 telling me 4.40 not 4.41 and I was confused, I proceeded to insert my Same USB that had 4.41 CFW 1.0 ( the one released a couple days ago ) and ejected any disks, and disconnected internet, ad pressed START AND SELECT, and WTF it began copying update to system and puts me in a screen to accept license and it has Rogero 4.40 1.03 as the update. I do not understand, why did it do that, and even stranger, the USB inserted was 4.41 1.0 I even took the USB out and put it in pc and verified it was 4.41 1.0. Can anyone explain why this occurred? Iím thinking maybe the ps3 stored the previous update somewhere internally and used that, not sure, but anyway the update went through without a hitch. However, now my 500 G is 4.40 1.03 ... So I guess I need to update again now to 4.41 through USB. I may be completely just unfamiliar with this occurrence and it probably typical but just didnít make common sense, anyone would know why this occurred can explain, would just like to know if this is common or a glitch or what.??
Thanks for any help advice or insight.
