I am not trying to be an Asshole here. I'll try and be precise and to the point. Please, come to your senses, and keep getting great games all your life:
1 - We all love games because we have had access to high quality titles all our lives.
2 - These games do not grow on trees, they are and have always been part of a business. Ever since the Atari 2600 and such. Much like the clothes you buy or the Fast Food you consume every day, or the classes you take on school, all businesses making the economy flow.
3 - There's real people and families involved in the gaming business. They only work in it to get money. Programmers, artists, QA testers, and much more. Thay can't work for free if they don't have parents to just give them money. Would you?
4 - Sony created the free PSN infrastructure spending millions on it, as 'thanks' (in reality a marketing stunt) for the customers buying PS3 games. Most paying customers nowadays enjoy and want online multiplayer features. Part of every single original PS3 game disc sold goes to the PSN maintenance.
5 - When someone hacks their console and plays an illegal copy of a game, he/she is not giving the small contribution to the PSN infrastructure.
6 - But, when that same player USES the free PSN service, he/she is using it's bandwidth. Bandwidth IS limited afterall. And then the PSN gets bloated, but it has no resources to expand.
7 - A big number of players are not satisfied with *not* paying for a game, they have no real skills or life so they choose to cheat in a multiplayer match. Not all players, but enough of a number to be a real headache for everyone.
8 - The cheater opted not to spend his/her money on the original game, but instead on pizza and fattening stuff. While ingesting the grease, the damn loser bloats PSN and starts "PWNING LULZ" aka ruining the few hours of fun other people were honestly trying to have. Some people worked all day for a few bucks and chose not to spend that on pizzas but on an original game disc. So that the devs could have a life too.
9 - People work all day, buy a PS3 system and original games with the little amount of money they can spare, and get slow/bad connection on bloated crippled PSN and hackers ruining the couple of relaxing hours they wish they could have.
10 - They give up on PS3, "leave it to the stinking hackers". Sony loses customers. The game devs lose customers. Next months and years, upcoming games' quality go all the way down.
11 - WE ALL LOSE.
Please, if you want to hack your console and play whatever in it, go ahead. But PLEASE, don't cripple PSN.
PS: If you think 'whatever, I can always play Xbox' think again. Competition is good for the market, we need at least 2 big similar consoles at all times.
