Stay on 4.00 or just update??

my aunt recently sent me a ps3 that had a messed up blu ray drive and i just got it fixed with another playstation i had that was getting sent in to sony to get fixed the ps3 has ofw 4.00 and i wanna hack it but im not trying to solder all those points and i dont find the solder-less tutorial online for the progsheet sine i have not mastered soldering. yet but i was wondering if i should keep my ps3 on 4.00 or just update to 4.31 since there is no jailbreak to any fw after 3.56 so before i do anything crazy i wanna know if i should just stay on 4.00 or if there is a dongle i could buy without having to solder anything to downgrade to 3.55

Any firmware is downgradable. Its the PS3 you have to worry, if it is downgradable. Use minimum version checker if it is a cech-25xx. cech-21xx and lower slims, and all phats are downgradable.
If it is a cech 30xx or 40xx, it is not downgradable.
