Well the title says it all. You want to jailbreak your PS3? Then you are at the right place! Good job.

It is quite simple really to find out if you can, basically in order to jailbreak to play backups or games from your HDD your PS3 Official Firmware has to be 3.55 or LOWER. Anything above 3.55 CANNOT be jailbroken. Pretty straightforward for even an idiot to understand.

But, on the flipside for some it is possible to downgrade if you are above 355, say 3.72 as an example. Depending on when you purchased/obtained your PS3 console it did not come stock with 3.56 or later. In this case, it is possible to downgrade.

Now comes the question for those that are on a firmware 3.56 or later, how can I find out if my console came with 3.55 or below?

Easy, check these charts against your console serial and that will give you your answer.

Ok, so there you go.... If you are one of the lucky ones that has a console that came stock with 3.55 or lower, congrats. You need to get yourself an E3 Flasher kit, and depending on your case you may need to learn how to solder. If you are 3.56 or higher, then you are out of luck for now. For those on higher than 3.55 you have waited this long for a new firmware, so continue to wait longer because there is NOTHING being released anytime in the forseeable future.



Then comes people with the never ending question of when a new jailbreak will be released.... Well for starters speculation doesn't help, and secondly nobody knows. Then you might ask, what about the videos on YouTube of people on higher than 3.55 CFW... Quite simply, it is fake! If it were real it would have been posted here and people would comment on its validity. So this post in itself should ween some of you out that decide you wanna up your post count and ask when a new CFW is going to be released. Let's put it in to perspective. GeoHot - George Hotz (a 16 year old kid) developed the CFW all by himself. And yet not even advanced programmers twice his age can come up with something... I have to believe that these so called programmers have very little imagination if a kid can develop something but with this much time going by and nothing new in the works, people that claim to know about reverse engineering don't know diddly in the grand scheme of things.

This post is to be as informative, and is not really open to speculation. Only the barebone facts are listed here, with a little bit of my personal opinion.

id like to add to this guide you missed something out, 90% of it, however for someone with a 1A console *like myself*
the only way to 100% verify if you can is miniverchck, Fortunatly mines 3.50 not everyones so lucky.
Overall decent.

Also forgot Data Code, *tells u if your 1A extra extra or not*. /end
not been on the scene long but these are things i had to find out.
First if my 2503B console was jailbreakable, some said yes, some said no, so i had then to check my Data Code *as above* said 1A, and finally i had to check my min version.

Wrong about both, multiple people did the iphone and some cracked it before him, his is just a more known release. + its abit unfair to just dismiss the other coders as "a little help"

OMG, I told myself never to come back to this site, but I decided to come here to see how things were. A couple of things about this one thread alone, you, MassModz, are wrong. Geohot was not the only one who hacked the iPhone. Actually, he wasn't even the first. What Geohot contributed was Blackra1n and Limra1n, which uses an exploit in all pre-A5 devices. You still have Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team. Also, using the manufacture date code will NOT tell you the lowest firmware, it will tell you what other people have said they can go to. As AlexFinlay said, you need to use minvercheck. Geohot is not 16. And you weren't even a few years off, you were more.
