i would like mkv and NTFS support.. and of course linux
Well, for me an useful homebrew would be a rendering plug-in for my 3D jobs. I know that the PS3 lacks RAM and the Cell SPUs are different from a desktop CPU cores, but sometimes every bit of computing power helps to meet a deadline... But it would only happen inside linux, of course. A native renderer would be a a pain in the ass to program.
Of course, I use my PS3 for playing while the PCs renders, but for that I have my Wii...
First of all I would like to see something like Bootmii for the wii. That's a program that starts before anything else on the console and can be used for unbricking.
Then I would like to see a media player that plays every format.
Next, a emulator for c64 and amiga. Hopefully with support for the USB verson of competition pro.
Last and this is propaly just a dream, a emulator for wii games and a emulator for PS2. But as I said, this is just a dream.
I'd like someone to come up with a Homebrew app to unlock game saves so that you can move all game saves from one PS3 to another. That's the main bugbear I see on forums all over the place.
I'd also like to see fail0verflow work on a BootMii equivalent for the PS3 if possible.
And of course a PS2 emulator, it's going to be a real tough job but should be possible if the dev team that're attempting it do the same thing that the guys that wrote WiiSX have done. They basically ripped the guts out of PCSX1 and wrote their own Dynarec from the ground up for the Gamecube and Wii hardware. A mammoth task but they did it surpisingly quickly and with great results.
And Quake and Duke Nukem 3D port with Move support would be fantastic, particularly the latter as there isn't one available for the Wii yet which has really surprised me.
PS2 Emulation is incredible difficult. Backwards compatibility n the firsts PS3 were done through hardware, and then when they went to reduce costs and create a software solution, it didn't hold up very well.
If $ony, who has all the codes, schemes and whatnots of both the PS2 and PS3 couldn't find a reliable software solution, I wonder if it's possible at all...
Really hope so, tho (my PS2 if acting funny lately, and my PS3 is a slim one...)!
I only want XBMC on there...
Hope someone can port it to the ps3 now.
Being able to play a game while transfering another or listening to music would be sweet
and media center
Well now that the backup manager horde has passed (or at least silenced for now )
If anyone remembers the first PSP "CFW", they would know that a recovery menu was loaded before anything else. (Dark Alex's 'proof of concept')
I think that a bootmii type of setup will save many cry's of bricking in the future. Therefore, I think investigating into this setup should be the next move, to first see if it can be done. Obviously members like those from fail0verflow would be the people to do this, so I understand if they wont do it or no other devs can.
(Who knows, Alek said Dark Alex and himself still watch the PS3 scene )
