Simply put... I want to jailbreak my PS3
Simply put... I want to jailbreak my PS3 –

Where you see commas in the text below, that seems out of place, it is a file extension. I could not post the original content as it treated it as a link, which is understandable.
Hello!
I am pretty sure there are thousands of these threads just lingering around, nevertheless I am not having the best possible success with trying to jailbreak my PS3 console. The reason I want to jailbreak my PS3 is so I can get access to the Linux OS, and to also have the ability to 'mod' several games such as MW, and GTA. I joined a online free mode match on GTA, and discovered items that aren't usually present in the game. I saw two versions of the statue of liberty sitting in the middle of the airport's runaway near the helicopter landing area, along with these vibrant and neon-like cubes that you could pick up like any item and throw to cause damage to other players. I was pretty funny.
I have always known it was possible, but I was always under the impression it was near-impossible or just extremely difficult for jailbreaking the PS3. Am I right in thinking that if I get CFW 4.30 on my PS3, this will give me such ability to install these 'mods'? I am thinking it's as easy as clicking to install packages in Linux, as I've seen in many videos about getting these 'mods' to work; however, I cannot even get to that stage as I am stuck with the unmodified PS3.
I understand that it must be at a certain firmware level, and it is currently at 4.30 or 4.31. I am not sure on the model, but I brought this console back in 2009 more or less when it hit the stores. It is the big fat one. I can get the specifics if needed.
So...
I know the operation revolves around a very specific file named PS3UPDAT,PUP, and updating the system's firmware using storage media such as a USB device that contains a structure that the system itself is able to recognise: /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT,PUP (The beginning "/" being the root directory of the filesystem).
When I first began updating my system's firmware using the PS3UPDAT,PUP file on my USB, it said it was corrupt half way through the process of installing it. So, I proceeded to download PS3jail,com's version of this file, and tried that. This time, however, it said it could not find any applicable update data.
In a nutshell...
I am having issues trying to update using external storage media. This is any PS3UPDAT,PUP file it seems.
Thanks in advanced for any help. Excuse the word-winded and long rant, but I did not want to leave room for assumptions or speculation.
In the mean time, I shall be trolling through the threads on this forum, and see if I can find any resolutions.

If you mean your PS3 is currently on 4.30 or 4.31 (or anything above 3.55 for that matter) then you are unable to jailbreak it. You can currently only install CFW (custom firmware that has been jailbroken) on a PS3 that currently has OFW under 3.56. You can buy extra hardware and downgrade your PS3 to 3.55 but this costs a bit and is not just a plug and play option.

Go to ebay. Type in ps3 downgrade, pay about 50$. Once you get it back install cfw. Mission complete.

What is this extra hardware? I don't know why I was under the impression I could. I only just realised it was not possible reading the top threads on this forum. So, it is more or less down to the question: How can I downgrade it if it's possible?
I might just try and look on eBay or something for a PS3 in the jailbreakable -- if thats a word -- range. I can afford to spend some money for this luxury.

There are people on eBay that downgrade. Just send your console off to get it done.

You made that quite clear in your first reply.. Thank you but I don't want to do that.

If your PS3 is not on 3.55 then you cannot install these CFWs, you have to downgrade your system first. You cannot install a CFW on a PS3 that is already at 4.30 or 4.31.

Please read the whole thread before you even make a reply. I am aware of that now... Do you know what this extra hardware is that is needed to downgrade it? That would help rather than telling me something I already know.
EDIT:
Validity of this? I think it's a fake; there are far too many positive comments.

Also, found this. Would this downgrade OFW 4.30 to 3.55?

That's correct. The E3 flasher is what you need.

Just trying to make sense of the E3 Flasher website. It is a a complete mess; unless you know how this device works?
