Should I update 4.00 to latest to use PSN?

Hi, I've been away recently and I am convinced the 4.00 firmware cannot be jailbroken unless I downgrade. So, I was wondering if I should update to connect to PSN since I never used it and want to see how it is. What should I do? Will updating get in the way of donwgrading, because I would like to downgrade in the future? Is there any confirmed posts on developers and hackers cooking up a jailbreak of 4.00 firmware? If I update, can I downgrade back to 3.55? (I had a PS3 since 3.41 was the latest) Is PSN worth it?

It's going to make no difference being on 4.00 or 4.31 for downgrading, so go ahead and update to use psn.

I like psn for Hulu, Netflix and Vudu access.
