Hey guys I'm a long time reader first time poster
I have a phat 80 gb ps3 with firmware 3.15. I know someone that wants to buy it off me and since the news of the ps3 being hacked am I better of keeping this one because it has OtherOs or should I sell it and go with the slim ps3?

Hi mate!
I'd say keep hold of it unless you've really got your heart set on a new slim. If you are going to make a move on buying a new one then now is the time before sony make a new firmware update.
As far as I know there aren't any advantages to having a slim other than the slight space saved, a slightly quieter machine and slightly less power consumption.
I wouldn't say it's worth the faffing about selling your current one and acquiring a new one for these benefits.

Are the phat ps3's more prone to ylod?

What I've read is that the older the machine the more prone they are to YLOD, but saying that, the 'average life span' of a Phat was quoted to be around 2 years before it got YLOD, but my son had his 2 1/2 years ago and its still kicking strong.
But as for Phat vs Slim, like Xeauron said above, apart from the size, space and power, of course the HDD size as well (easily remedied), you may as well stick with your Phat for the trouble tbh, just be careful with it and you should be best friends for quite a while to come
Hope this helps

Not really, as long as you treat it with care, try not to move it about and keep it dust free ect it should be fine.
Also be careful when operating the switch at the back, though it hasn't been confirmed to me personally - when flicking it on and off if done slowly you'll hear a crackling sound as the power cuts in and out and this can potentially cause components to burn out.
Though as I said on that second point, I'm not 100% sure, but I am paranoid about using that switch too often (probably because I have OCD lol).
goth1k has covered all the other bases.
I've got a 60GB PAL UK launch model and it's (Touch wood) working fine and shouldn't need anything replacing on it for a long time. Though I do have a mate with the same model and the Blu-Ray drive no longer reads anything (He uses it to stream and is too stingy to get it fixed - though Sony are asking for £90 as it's out of warranty).

I would never switch my ps3 phat for a slim, firstly you still have other OS then in some days psjailbreak will be released, which makes your ps3 more valueble, people are saying that psjailbreak won't work on lower firmwares, we are yet to see it, though, i am not updating mine until i try it for myself.

I have a feeling that in around 4-6 weeks from now, PS3's running 3.41 will start to become a very popular item on Ebay etc.
