should I replace the HDD before downgrading or after?

Hello,
A few weeks ago I bought the E3 Card Reader.
My PS3 is in 3.50fw and with only 40GB internal HDD.
I bought new HDD with 500GB and I want to put him into the PS3.
What I need to do first:
Replace the HDD and then downgrading to 3.41 OR downgrading the fw and then replace the HDD?

unless someone else replies with different information I would replace the HDD first. I think on some PS3's when you replace the HDD it requires you to reinstall the FW. This process might remove your downgrade if it requires you to reinstall 3.50 instead of the new 3.41 you downgraded to.
