A series of questions related to Jailbreak
A series of questions related to Jailbreak –
I'm now at 3.55 Kmeaw I intend to update to a more modern firmware with the ability to run homebrew. I have not used my PS3 in many months. Yesterday I installed the QA toggler, but did not use it yet. First off, I apologies for asking questions I'm sure there are answers too, but I just want to make sure of the questions in my setting, as I already have a backwards compatible waninkoko brick in my borthers cellar (I might look into fixing that later) and do not want to make another brick
What file should I backup before I proceed so I can later use ReactPSN if I need to?
I think I read that running the QA toggler or some other part of the upgrade might delete this file, so guess its top priority.
Which version of multiman should I install? CEX/DEX/Stealth?
I was unable to update trough inside MM.
Could not connect to server or something, I now have MM version 04.05.01 or something.
I understand that I needed to update this before I update the firmware, or am I at new enough version?
Can I just upgrade after I enable QA?
Do I need to go first to 3.55 rebug, or can I go from 3.55 Kmeaw to newest either REX or standard rebug?
I understand that rebug should suit next to everyone's needs, but REX or Standard?
I do not need ProDG.
I don't beleive I need other debug features? Don't know what they are.
Also a friend of mine has her PS3 on OFW 3.50
And she is wondering if she can just use the PUP to update to Rebug 4.30.1 on a USB stick without doing anything more.
I will explain to her she cant use PSN, but she can install MultiMan right?
Just update through the xmb dude, and don't have a disc in the slot while updating.. . No more than that. I'd recommend Rogeros latest 4.30 2.5 as it seems the xmb is a little faster than rebug and it's not cluttered with the extra options regular end users would use anyway. As for your friend.. Update to ofw 3.55 then go to cfw whatever. Go to brewology.com to download the latest multiman.
Thanks to Griff I am up and running
Also figured out after searching a lot the file I was looking to backup was the act.dat file
Now I just need to figure out which *Install Package File (the regular one or the singstar replacement one) I like better and hide the icon to the other one. Hehe
Rebug isn't "cluttered" with unused options... I don't know why people keep saying that. It is a completely standard XMB except for the "Package Manager" icon (for "Install Packages"). I think people see the Rebug Tools screen and think all that is on the normal XMB? I recommend you use 4.30 Rebug (I'm using it on two PS3s, and 3-4 of my friends are using it.. works perfectly and is completely "normal").
You should get the latest Multiman -- I think it's 4.18.4 or something.. You need to get the 4.18.00 base, then you can update to the latest inside Multiman. You will want the CEX version which is the normal PS3 customer version. As for Stealth, I have no experience, but if you do not want to go on PSN then STEALTH will not help you and might be over complicated to get working. You can update this before or after you update to 4.30.
You should turn on the QA while you are on 3.55, before you update. Many people on these forums will say that it helps you be safer in the future, and can help with future downgrading/upgrading. I found the easiest way is to get Rebug Toolbox and load it up on any 3.55 CFW system... Then in one of the toolbox's menus you can set QA to Enabled -- and you are done. The site for Rebug toolbox and for their firmware is http://rebug.me/ Also, there is an option to dump your flash to USB if you want. This could help if you ever need to reflash your NOR memory. If you do have NOR memory, there is an app called Condor Updater which will boot your PS3 into recovery mode easily. I would NOT recommend using Rebug Toolbox to do this since it warns you that you are not on a Rebug firmware! I always update from the recovery mode (and with QA enabled) as many people said it was safer.
If your friend is on 3.50 then she will have no issues going to CFW. Heck, I made a kind of "checklist" for myself when updating... its not a thing of beauty, but I might as well paste it in here in case it helps.
Condor Updater 3.1.pkg
Steps to install 4.30 REX from 3.55 CFW
* REMOVE disc from drive!!!!
* Remove SPOOF -- return to 3.55
* Install Rebug Toolbox 2.01
- Dump Flash to USB
- Set QA Flag: ENABLED
Check to see if you have NOR or NAND Flash RAM using chart SKU Models - PS3 Development Wiki
If you have NOR, use "Condor Updater 3.1.pkg" to go to RECOVERY MODE.
If you have NAND, you will have to go to recovery old-style -- google for it.
* Use Recovery mode to install 4.30 !
•Create a folder named PS3 on your external drive and another folder inside it called UPDATE.
•Copy your new PS3UPDAT.pup to your external drive in the folder /PS3/UPDATE/
* In 4.30, use the Rebug Toolbox to set operating mode to Rebug for the 4.31 spoof to activate.
* Remember to activate media server each time you boot if access is desired for streaming.
Most 3.55 resigned PSN or homebrew will not work anymore in 4.30 REX (however it seems all originally disc based
games continue to work even if resigned to 3.55). I have found that "TrueAncestor EBOOT Resigner v1.5" (or greater) easily resigns these 3.55 eboots to 4.xx. Use option #3 NPDRM
Wow, if I had not yet updated I would have followed your steps and gone to Rebug.
I did however set my QA flag (and tested it with the button combo over network settings), and dumped my NOR.
Is TrueAncestor for Linux or Mac also? Would be cool if they could integrate a resigner into Deank's *Install Package application :P
Regarding "True Ancestor" I do not know if there are Mac or Linux versions -- I would think not as it's a "DOS" console app (Perhaps even a batch file) which runs many other PC exe's to get the job done.
For those interested, I thought I'd share a method that is really fast to resign the 3.55 homebrew and PSN. Fire up Multiman to get the FTP server going. Then on the PC, FTP into the PS3 (I use Filezilla -- works perfectly and super fast and free). Then go to HDD0 and GAME. Scroll down past all the BLUS type stuff to folders like /dev_hdd0/game/HTSD00001 . This is showtime disc access for instance. There will be the normal SFO file (which you can right-click and view to see which app you are on) and then go into USRDIR. Drag the EBOOT.BIN over into the "True Ancestor" folder, and then run it ("resigner.exe"). Select option number 3, "Resign to NPDRM EBOOT". It will find the Content ID automatically. Hit ENTER. It will resign the EBOOT. Rename the original EBOOT.BIN on the PS3 to something like EBOOT_orig.BIN. Drag the new EBOOT.BIN over to the PS3 now and you are done. Then move to the next app.
i have a 3.55 with rogero 8.1 version what i have to do ? because i dont understand it.
If you want to install 4.30 Rebug, go to their website http://rebug.me/ and get the Rebug Toolbox and Rebox 4.30.1 firmware (I list the filenames on my previous post). You can get Condor Updater from this site under downloads. Condor Updater isn't necessary -- all it does is easily get you into Recovery Mode. You can probably just install the new firmware from the normal XMB. But I still recommend you use Rebug Toolbox to set your QA flag before you update. If you want to be 100% sure you downloaded the files properly, you should use a MD5 checksum program to compare your checksum with the one on Rebug's site. You can google for a MD5 program. But let's see -- I'll try to be more clear on the steps... so go to Rebug's site to get the firmware and toolbox... Use toolbox to Enable the QA flag (it's easy to find once you run Toolbox program) , and the condor updater is optional.. You will rename "REBUG_4.30.1_PS3UPDAT.PUP" to "PS3UPDAT.PUP" and place it on a USB drive at /PS3/UPDATE/ (all CAPS on all those). Then fire off the update. Just follow the other steps I mentioned (first remove any spoof -- return to 3.55 which it sounds like you are, and take out disc from drive first). So just try to follow the steps in my previous post in order. Good Luck, if you decide to update!
what are you trying to do?
