Are save files of a game played from disc compatible with the game's backup?

I haven't a JB yet, but I plan to buy it sooner or later.

Now I play RE5 Gold as usual from disc, will my save data be compatible when I'll run backup of it in the future, will it load them?

I mean I don't want to lose my progress, I better stop to play now until I get a jb if not.
