Save Data Utility Problem!

I can't get the "Save Data Utility" to work from my PS3. This applies to both jailbreak and non-jailbreak mode. I'm trying to copy some offline game content from a USB flash drive to the PS3.

Now, I'd never even tried this utility before until recently. I can view the contents from any USB drive but can't get any options to "copy" material from them. When I hit triangle from a save to bring up options I get kicked back out of the drive contents.

I have now tried 3 different USB drives with no luck. There seems to be some setting or something from the PS3 that's not allowing me to copy the contents from a USB drive. They all show up from the USB drive but no options to copy anything or any other selection either. I have tried many things to get it working but no luck. Does anybody have any clue as to what's causing my problem? Thanks! :chinscrat

:S That's really odd... Did you ever mess around with the PS3 registry? Also have you tried re-formatting your USBs to FAT32?

Anyway for the time being, you could just FTP those files onto your PS3. I believe the savedata directory is somewhere in the 'home' folder in dev_hdd0.

I tried to FTP them but they won't load from the games. I placed them into my username directory from "home>savedata" on the HDD(internal). I've never messed with the registry on the PS3 at all. I've already formatted each USB drive to FAT32. I'm just baffled as to what's causing this problem.

I've googled my problem but haven't found anything to match either. I thought it was the USB drives until I went out and bought a brand new USB cruzer(2GB) and that too didn't work. I don't know what to try next either. :mad:

This is ridiculous! FTP doesn't even make the game saves work. Now, I do have a couple EA Sports saves and those are known to have issues. However, a few other saves that aren't EA Sports don't work either.

I'm gonna post a photo showing where I'm copying the saves on HDD. This should be the right place going by what I know. Below is a screenshot of the directory I'm using:

As you can see, I have placed them in the /dev_hdd0/home/0000002/savedata directory. The 00000002 listing is my profile and there's another one on the PS3(0000001).

I have all my save data content in that directory. None of the files I transferred via FTP will work. Add to that the USB drive problem from the save data utility and there's something weird going on with the PS3. I can't figure it out.

I have tried to use my knowledge to fix this but can't find a resolution. It would lead you to believe there's something on the PS3 blocking not only the USB content from being allowed to copy but also loading the same content that's being FTP'd over. I'm totally puzzled and confused. :chinscrat:mad:

BTW, on the 360 we need to resign saves with Modio or the like to get them to work. I don't believe there's anything like this for PS3. It's like the PS3 is asking for saves to be resigned or something before it will work. :rolleyes:

The directory seems fine so if that isn't working, some really weird is going on lol. If all else fails, you might want to consider:
- Re-installing the firmware (if that's possible??)
- Reformatting/restoring the PS3 to factory defaults
- Removing all package files

If you haven't touched any important files on the PS3, I really don't see why it's playing up like that - quite a mystery D:.

I've posted my problem over at PS.com boards to see what they have to say about this. Of course, I didn't mention anything about jailbreak. ;)

I might be looking at reformatting the HDD. I really don't wanna fool with backing up all my games from HDD but if that's the issue then I'll do it.

BTW, I do have the original 40GB HDD that came with the console. I think I can just pop it in the PS3 and see if it works with the save data utility. However, there's nothing on it in regards to games now.

I might rip one game to this HDD and then see if one of the offline saves I have will copy to the PS3 from the save data utility. That would at least let me know if it's HDD related. ;)

My issue still not resolved. I think I'm gonna copy a photo to one of my flash drives and see if the PS3 will allow me to copy that. This will let me know more about XBM and whether it's just the save data utility section giving me problems. :rolleyes::crazy:

Well, photos of .PNG files I can copy to the PS3 from XBM "Photo" tab. It's not pertained to other areas of XBM. My problem only seems to be affected from the "save data utility" area.

I went into "safe mode" last night to see what some of those options would do. I didn't use the "reformat" option because I don't wanna lose all my data and games. None of the other options(restore settings, rebuild database, etc.) helped me out.

Does anybody know what the heck is causing my problem? Does it have anything to do with using an outdated firmware? I wouldn't think so. This problem happens from jailbreak mode or regular mode. What is disallowing me from copying content from a flash drive from the save data utility? It's puzzling to me!

I can't really open up a support from Sony because my PS2 is out of warranty. It's like something on the PS3 is blocking me. Maybe some sort of setting? I have no clue as I have been looking for a solution for weeks now.

The PS.com boards haven't given me any help either. That's where I thought I could get my answers but hasn't happened. Surely somebody on here knows what may be causing my issues. Thanks guys! :chinscrat

Called Sony yesterday about my problem. I was given the excuse of copyright protection was disallowing me from copying offline saves to the PS3. That's BS! Some games do have copyright protection but none of my offline saves are copyright protected.

The Sony rep also mentioned that firmware versions may be causing the problems. What does firmware versions have to do with anything here? This is about copying data from a darn USB flash drive. Not about certain games not working.

I noticed last night that I couldn't delete any of the game updates/patches from the "Game Data Utility" from XBM. We're supposed to be able to delete patches/updates from there but when I hit triangle for options I again get kicked out of the saves. The only thing that shows up is "Information".

The "Information" is all I can get when trying to copy an offline save from USB drive too. When I click on information I get the amount of space for the USB flash drive. That's all I can get! No options for "copy" or any other options like I should be seeing.

There must be something corrupt from XBM. I have used "safe mode" to restore XBM back to default but that didn't help. I used other options from safe mode and those didn't work either. The only thing I haven't done is restore the HDD back to default. I'm trying to avoid that really. The problem is pertained to both jailbreak and non-jailbreak mode.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what's causing my issues? I'm grasping at straws now trying to get this resolved. This is puzzling! :crazy::chinscrat

BTW, I've tried to use FTP to transfer the saves to the HDD as well. They will not work like that either. These aren't copyright protected saves. Some games are copyright protected and shouldn't work but none of these are like that.

When I try load the saves after FTP I get either corrupted messages or saying the saves came from another user. This would make you think it did have to do with copyright but that shouldn't be an issue.

One thing you can try is. create a new save with the game then use ftp to view the contents of that save and overwrite all files except for PARAM.SFO with the files from the save you are having trouble with. now go back to the game and load the "frankenstein" save. Try that and let us know how it went.
