Running Jailbroken PS3 without any JB device?

I have been reading some posts which have caught my interest, but I am wondering if I am reading them wrongly.


I am still using my old trusty method of JB through PSGroove...I must plug the device in each time I want to run the JB.


but I noticed someone mention something in a post elsewhere that we may no longer need JB devices.



Is there some method I can use to get Jailbroken Original FW on my PS3 without the need to keep plugging in dongle every time?


If so, how do I go about updating my PS3 for this? I'm on 3.41 FW.


EDIT: Just to be clear, is there a way of running jailbroken on any ORIGINAL (Sony) FW? Or do I need to install a CFW somehow and is that the only way?

Umm... How long have you been reading up on the PS3 activities?

It's been about 9 months since you don't need the dongle; that's enough time to make a baby.

Just install Kmeaw 3.55 and pretty much all of the implementations of PSgroove is built in plus you get up to 3.55 keys (which allows you to play newer games than 3.41).

It sounds like you are running a back-up manager, mind if I ask which one? You will need the hermes payload pkg if you go to CFW.

I have been reading up on them for quite a while when the JB first appeared, but after this I got a little too busy. Maybe I was making a baby ;)

I have been reading a lot of other posts but am getting too mixed up in the info I'm getting from them, so thought I would ask.

I'm trying to remember what I was using, it was quite a while ago.

Rockbox PSGroove 1.4 I think which included Hermes payload. Whichever version had Hermes just before he left.

Backup Manager - I think it was Gaia (but that's a guess) and also had Backup Manager (I think that's what it was called? Can't find it anymore though so maybe it's dead?).


I think from what I can remember, I was having to get signed eboots for a lot of the games which were being released around the time of 3.50 which needed to be signed to work on 3.41 - so am guessing this means I am going to have to get updated EBOOTs for each game if I am to update to 3.55 ?

Once you update to 3.55 CFW, you will need the original eboots for the games and you can't run games past 3.56 (but BF3 and Uncharted 3 have fixed eboots)

Darn, thought so... I hope I kept them.

When you say you need the originals, do you then have to resign them or can this CFW run them from the original EBOOTs?


Previously it was possible to get the 3.41 version EBOOTs from various locations including here, is there any such easy way of getting the original EBOOTs again? If I google I see a link or two to some pages but its difficult to tell which are originals and which are patched.
