Rumor: PSdowngrade will not work on brand new 3.42 systems - True?

Ouch. I guess it's going to be a cold christmas. Hopefully we'll have a 3.50 jb in the horizon.

Don't take what I said as fact... I'm just saying what I have noticed myself during my tests.

I have tried at least 10 different combinations of trying to downgrade to 3.15 on that slim machine. If I can dig up the post, it'll say most of what I've tried.

I ended up trying all the combinations in that post and nothing ended up working for me. It's not a problem, since I can still get back to 3.41 retail, but I just wanted to try some new things out.

I also tested a whole boatload of FW and permuations, with no luck. I think my PS3 can't accept other FW below its default.

This is what I'm starting to believe as well. I think if we could get access to debug 3.5 we could flash it, then spoof another firmware version through service mode, thus allowing us to flash an earlier update. Im probably totally wrong about this though. Regardless, I am completely unable to flash anything beside 3.5 retail.

I believe that this "rumor" is somewhat true. While I cannot speak for 3.42+ factory install firmware, I can speak for my 2 slims and 1 Phat.

1- Slim with 3.10 factory installed. This slim downgraded to 3.15 without issues. I haven't tried anything lower.

2- Slim with 3.30 factory installed. No matter what combination I try, it will NOT downgrade to 3.15. Unless I'm missing something, it will not downgrade past 3.30. I obviously know how to downgrade, as I got to 3.15 retail on my older slim.

3- Phat 80gb partial BC with unknown factory firmware. I bought this today (GameStop Refurbished). It had 3.50 installed. Was able to downgrade to 3.15 without issues. I'll try going lower in the near future.

In MY tests, I believe that you can't go lower than the factory firmware on SLIMS. Most people going lower than the factory firmware have stated that they have phats. If anyone can prove otherwise, I'd say that the rumor is partially true.

But how would you explain then that Kesse has sucessfuly downgraded his factory 3.42 SLIM ?

I've also tried it. Didn't work here either, with 3.42 preinstalled.

It's working now, on my PS3 Slim 320GB Move bundle, CECH-2504B. I first tried installing the 3.15 debug. No luck. 3.15 Debug again. No luck. 3.15 retail. No luck.

Then i installed 3.50 retail to unbrick, and installed modified 3.41. And it's working now.

From what you say, no factory should be able to go to a lower firmware, but Kesse got it working. Still it's weird. Some can, others cant.

His unit is CECH-2504B. Ours is CECH-2512B. I will keep trying, as I find that I'm always able to return to 3.50 after a brick. So far, fingers crossed.

ive also had better luck downgrading when doing an upgrade first. i find its easier to go down to a lower firmware while at 3.50. sometimes i cant, sometimes i can.

there are too many variables with the whole downgrade thing to say with some assurance that you cant downgrade from 3.42. all in all, its only something the end user can do. i bet if people who cant downgrade from 3.42 gave their console to someone else, they wont have issue.

Just successfully downgraded a brand new unopened 320gb with 3.42 down to 3.41 with E3 downgrade (new br fix).

Havent read this thread yet as I'm just off out but I had no probs.

CECH-2504B right? As far as I have read, they are downgradable.
