Also just in case anyone starts to (or already has) called out fail0verflow on their "unpatchable" promise, make note that they never said it was software unpatchable. Only hardware. So it is still possible to hardware downgrade 3.56 PS3s and any future firmware these PS3s are on. However of course once new hardware revisions come out, they won't be vulnerable.
Actually, that's wrong. You can't downgrade using a NAND or NOR programmer. Sony did some fiddling with the Cell's EEPROM to throw in hashes and prevent the use of an external flasher. Some people have already tried this, even trying the obvious: flashing a direct backup of the system they attempted to downgrade. No luck.
In short, Sony closed that door a long time ago.
fail0verflow claimed we had all the keys available to us to take complete control of the system. Is it wrong to call them out on it? I'm not bitching at them - I just expect some action. This is EXACTLY the wrong time to back off and say "we did our part". If for no other reason, they need to step up and release a Geohot-style 3.56 CFW that patches the keys (and allows homebrew once again), just to demonstrate they were right. Anything less borders on "Epic Fail"
