Ripping games on PC?
I've got a Sony Vaio laptop with a Blu-Ray drive, since I'm tight on cash I'm considering buying a PS3 off craigslist with a defective BluRay drive. Would it be feasible for me to rip games on the Vaio and then transfer them to a JB PS3 or does it need to be done on the PS3 with the Backup Manager?
windows doesnt recognise the file format of a game disc when inserted into my bluray drive. I'm not sure if there's other software out there that will allow you to dump the bluray disc from a PC.
Even if you could, u should think twice about buying a ps3 with a broken bluray drive. depending on how broken the bluray drive is I've seen reports of ftp not running and backup manager not running on jailbroken ps3's with broken bluray drives because when these apps start up it tries to query the blu ray drive and if no response is received, fails to start.
Same, my PC can't read my PS3 games at all.
I'd also check what the problem is with the blu-ray drive. If it's a faulty laser, you should be ok as that means the actual drive itself works. Depends -how- faulty the laser is. I've heard some people say their drive reads DVD's and CD's, but not games and thus they've been fine... while people with 100% dead lasers can't use the JB at all.
Also don't forget to check firmware.
Thanks, that gives me more to consider. Although without being able to read the game disc, I guess it's mostly moot anyway.
Hopefully there should be some software out that would be able to do this (assuming of course that the PC's bluray burner is similar to the PS3's Bluray drive). Up until now there wouldn't have been much reason for ripping PS3 BD's but now there is :P
I think I saw a software on ps3iso that allows you to read PS3 game discs on your pc/laptop with a blu-ray drive.
Damn I should of favourited that page =.=
