Don't know if the logic board is dead yet, but if i have a known working drive, swapping this chip out will do the trick, that's what i'm gathering correct?
Wait a second, what if the logic board is still good?
question is,how to determine if logic board is dead or not.maybe someone could shed some light on this.obviously if there are scorch marks or similar on board then chances are its dead
my board looks perfect, but not even sure its the right one!!
if you can run homebrew or demo games from hdd with attached BR drive board - then board is ok and right one
If that's the case and the drive is failing to read any disk, what are the options available?

ok,some interesting findings today.
ps3 was on 3.15 fw and wouldnt jb,so i updated to 3.41 fw and it updated flawlessly, then i loaded open manager, gaia, comgenies file manager, purples awesome game and new gba emulator.
tested all homebrew apps, and they all loaded with no crashes whatsoever.installed ftp and i shall ftp a demo over and test.
from what others have said it seems board is right one but is faulty,so hopefully swapping bga over is needed.
my mate watched the video and said guy doing it is an idiot, the iron is way too hot for pcb work.he recommends 15w iron,no more
does this mean that board is correct one?
UPDATE...ps3 plays demos.well chuffed.so it seems its right board after all,but faulty.bga swap and then have fully functional ps3
cheers lads for all your info and insight, much appreciated

Sorry to revive this thread, but I'm stuck with a new logic board and I cannot seem to remarry it right. There is a way to do it, without changing the chip form the old board to the newer? Now that we can access the jig service mode is there a way to remarry ps3 and a newer bd drive?
also hoping for this to be possible sometime soon...

PSN games, etc. work but I can't get any discs to spin (and never see the spinning disc in top right corner) so maybe it's the blu ray board? I don't have any demos on here so I don't know if thats the problem or not?
I was REALLY hoping that I could play backups at least, but no bluray so Gaia Manager just goes to a black screen when you launch a backup
