Hey Macflame, I know this is an old post but I'm having exactly the same problem. Did you ever figure out what the problem was and how to fix it? I bought a new blu ray drive and my disc isn't going in. I'm hoping you can help me out. Thanks.

On the FATie PS3 the marrying key is on the 48pin firmware, and the 8pin serial chip contains only laser cal. and type data.
On the SLIM it seems the 8pin serial chip contains all the needed data.
I am working on another way to "re-marry" the drive board on a FATie PS3, and will post details on my way if it works later this week.
Okay, Thanks! I've been trying to repair a broken PS3 slim that I bought from ebay.

The lens and drive mechanics work fine.

finding a replacement board
finding a replacement board –
First of all, I'm new here, so please excuse any newbie forum errors...
So I've gotten my hands on a fat ps3 60gb with no blu ray drive. Since the blu ray drive board is married to the motherboard, do I have driveless system on my hands, or is there a way to find a compatible driveboard for my PS3s motherboard?
my ps3 lens are good i tested them on other ps3s but it wont play demos i put the disc in and the clock moves sometimes not always. if i put the ps2 game the red laser activates and blue with br disks. i think i have a bluray drive brick. hope gary figures something out. its hard to find logic boards i can find anybody with the version i have. my board says b in circle and 4 in circle. version 003 .
if someone can help let me know
Matching Parts –
I also wish to know how to match logic board to PS3.
I have 5 PS3's and 5 Blueray drives which are mixed up. none of them seem to read and i think i need to replace/clean the blueray lens but before i do i want to make sure i have been sold matching parts.
I read in this forum that the PS3 will display a spinning disk in the top right hand corner when the correct blueray drive is inplace. this is not the case for me. 1 PS3 will display a spinning disk on all 5 blueray dives(With their own logic boards attached) even though the disk is not spinning in any of them. this is the same with all 5 PS3's
Can anyone else put this issue to bed.
Thanks in Advance
If you have the incorrect (but good) logic board, and a good drive/laser, then the disk will still spin when you put it into the system, it just won't read anything.

Thanks for you reply.

I have also changed the laser an another drive which now works and is also matched with the correct PS3.
as with the rest. I think they may have bad logic boards or bad lasers as they are not spinning at all just the 3 clicks of the eye operating.
Thanks for you help

I am leaning toward a corrupt hard drive. i can save music an videos from USB on to it but when the PS3 tries to interact itself by loading a demo or PS home or loading a blueray game it just displays a blank screen and stops.
I can load modern warfare 5 get all the way to point of loading a level then it stops(blank screen) i have to turn the console off then on. Then no more PS3 disks are recognised. boot into safe mode option 3 and 4 which say the hard drive is corrupt(does it say that no matter what?) when it reloads i repeat the cycle.
This tells me the drive blueray drive is working but there an issue elsewhere unless the laser is on its last legs.
What were your findings?
Im going test other hard drives in this PS3 and report my findings.
