My assumption would be the PSP one is used for playing Minis on the PS3? :S Also I wonder if the PS2 one exists in Slim units, but Sony have just left it unused![]()

Holy crap, there's a chance you could rip your UMDs and play them on PS3 at some point? (Yeah, I'm jumping the gun there a bit...)
I have the older PSP without the video out and would love to play me games on the big screen.
FYI, they removed the parts needed from the system (PS2 GS chip) to enable PS2 emu in the slim units.

there is a chance to unhide the ps2 software emulator and see what happens when you pop in the ps2 dvd. i wonder what kind of alleged performance issues would we encounter.
Kind of....There are 2 different types of european PS3 at the moment:
SKU 1) Launch PS3 units (60GB 4 USB ports and card readers - same as mine) which contain the software emulator and a few extra motherboard parts including the Graphics Synthesiser chip allowing PS2 emulation.
SKU 2) Same as above but with 2 USB ports, no card readers and the PS2 parts removed to save costs (This class of SKU includes the slim). These cannot use the same method to emulate PS2 as far as I know as they rely on the GS chip to render.

If PS2 Emulator existed in all ps3, except for the 60GB use the Emotion engine (actual hardware), why did they enable software emulator for the 80GB and disable for the rest? what's the point?
Tekken 5 is PS2 game, did they actually port them over to ps3 or use the emulator? hmmm...or maybe they did you the emulator, who know...
Sorry I should have clarified!
USA SKU 1) Includes all hardware GS and EE chip (in one custom chip) from PS2 allowing 99% compatibility
EU SKU 1) Includes just the GS chip and a few other bits, the rest of the system is emulated using the cell allowing 75% compatibility.
It's the EU BC model which uses emulation...

some ps3s have full ps2 hardware emulation, some have partial. and it's possible that some would have to do with pure software emulation. and that allegedly was not efficient enough (according to sony).
hard to say how much truth is there. i still suspect it's a matter of profits - ps3 without ps2 hardware is cheaper to produce, and also sony can charge people for their ps2 games. again.
