This supposedly reset (user access) the drive back to factory default. This will not reset the S.M.A.R.T. info and what not. You need hyper-terminal with the proper ATA commands and with a hardware to communicate to the HDD via serial interface to be able to reset the S.M.A.R.T. info.
Thank you for the reply but i'm going to be honest, i have no idea what you're talking about or how to go about doing that. Ha sorry i'm probably too n00b for that.
Anyway i reinserted my 500gb HD into the PS3 and it succesfully reformated it and installed OFW 3.55, not sure why but it worked lol
So i guess i'll have to play with my 500gb HD, i'm going to upgrade to latest FW and then try install the 60gb again see if it works i'll let you guys know what happens!

Yeah, I should not have stated anything about the S.M.A.R.T., my bad, I tend to give out more info then needed really. Just ignore the very last paragraph, you really do not need to worry about it. Now the manufacturer of such hard drive like Western Digital makes a diagnostic utility, I think it was called "data lifeguard tool." It should have the option to zero fill any Western Digital based hard drive. The long version of zero fill can take some time though. So what I meant is that you could download a utility from a specific manufacturer's web site and use it's utility to zero out your hard drive. Also a third party utility may be able to do just that like "killdisc" or alternatively you could go to hddguru.com/ and download some of there utilities. Now keep in mind that these utility cannot truly low level format your hard drive, but the term is loosely used unfortunately and refereed to... you guessed it "zero fill". In technicality it is not low level formatting.

This may be true but I'm sure he has the best chances while upgrading from OFW to OFW since that's what the system was designed to handle. You don't know for sure what the system looks for during the upgrades and changes to the systems hardware.

No, now that the system is back on OFW I think you can successfully swap the back the HDDs. I think you should try it first before you just go with it. I think the error in the beginning was just not going to OFW before the switch. If I'm right it should work properly now. But, like someone else posted your HDD may by dying. But it's worth a try since you already have the HDD bay open and you're just casually swapping HDDs

Hey guys good news, after installing OFW 3.55 when using my 500gb HD the ps3 started up, i then updated to 3.72 via internet. Everything worked fine So i decided to put the 60gb back in and installed OFW 3.72 via USB, the ps3 detected the HD this time but said it was corrupted, so formatted it and all was fine.
It worked! Yayy now everythings fully functional and at latest OFW. Already kinda miss CFW tbh but i'm glad i didnt brick anything, MW3 here i come!
Thanks for all your help guys seriously, peace.

Now I look like a fool. Though I still don't believe this was due to the CFW.

Glad everything worked out and this helps to remind me to put my system back on OFW before upgrading my HDD. Was always nervous about that but now I see it'll work just fine!
Congrats on the success
