replacing ps3 hard drive using ftp app to transfer data
replacing ps3 hard drive using ftp app to transfer data –
I have a load of games on my hdd purchased from psn, if I buy a bigger internal hard drive I will not be able to get my games from psn as I am on 3.41.
My question is this, would I be able to use the ftp app to transfer the content of my games folder (or whichever contains teh psn games) to my pc prior to upgrading the hdd would I be able to transfer them back and retain the use of the games?

Why not just use the backup utility in the xmb with an external?
Then you can also ftp everything as a failsafe, in case some games don't transfer. But I believe if you use the backup utility, it will copy over everything but trophies.
thanks for the reply, I was under the impression that I would need to redownload the games I have purchased from psn
You will need to activate the games that aren't transfered, so no use using PS3's Backup tool.
I'm also interesting in doing the Whole backup through FTP, but i dunno if it will preserve my data, like games being playable, etc.
You will if you do the ps3 way...

I'm 100% it will ask me to format the hdd, I just wonder if I do that and then ftp all the contents of the old drive over, if they will work. we shall see later, I'm off in abit to get a new hard drive.

youtube says yes, you can fit 12.5mm drives , just remove the cover
into the slim or the original? I'm mulling over doing this, but I'd want to know it can be done fairly easily in the slim before attempting.
