Red Screen of Death. Recovery and Factory Modes not working.
Red Screen of Death. Recovery and Factory Modes not working. –

Apologies in advance if this is the improper section.
Have been running 3.55 kmeaw until recently.
Bought the COBRA-USB because it can now play PS2 backups.
Apparently it requires 3.41 firmware.
Followed their instruction manual to downgrade to what they are calling "a modified 3.41" which I'm seeing described as "3.41(3.56)" by other places.
At that point my system settings said it was "3.41."
The COBRA instructions were not clear on where to get the files for the rest of their downgrading procedure, so I figured I would go back to 3.55 kmeaw and start again, try to re-downgrade with another method.
I plugged in a USB drive with the 3.55 kmeaw firmware on it, but when I went to update it, the updating screen came up (pic), and three seconds later, Red Screen of Death (pic).
My controller will not connect fast enough whether plugged in or not for me to try to cancel this update process.
I attempted Recovery Mode (hold power til it shuts off, hold power again til two beeps) but I get the same screen.
I even tried to enter Factory Mode using my COBRA-USB's Downgrade dongle mode, but... RSOD.
Somebody help? T~T

-put your dongle in psgrade/servicemode/or whatever they call it.
-Unplug or turn off the console from behind.
-Plug in or turn on the switch
-insert the dongle in the usb port nearest to the BD drive (dont plug anything beside this, you dont need controllers ATM....)
-do the power/eject cycle. await to the console shut off itself
-in a usb pendrive fat 32 formated PUT THE FILE 1 SELF AND THE MODIFIED 3.41 THAT YOU FLASHED (put the two files in the root of the drive and with their proper names). PUT THE DRIVE IN THE SAME PORT AS PREVIOUS. TURN ON THE PS3
-WAIT THE 5 MINUTES AND PRAY TO GOD IT CAN BE FLASHED IT. if that doesn't work try a 3.55 pup or a 3.15 AFTER REPEATING THE PROCEDURE....
-exit from service mode with file 2 .self. if it got flashed well. read the log file dumped in the pendrive.
Remember. you do the reflash blindly to fix this semi bricks. IF YOUR CONSOLE DONT SHUT OFF AFTER YOU DOING THE FIRST PART OF THE DOWNGRADE PROCEDURE (PUT YOUR CONSOLE IN SERVICE MODE BUUUUT DONT ENTER THE SHIT....) MAN, YOU'RE SCREWED AND NEED A NOR/NAND FLASHER.-
HAVE YOU READ THE TOPICS ABOUT RED SCREENS????The only red screen i have got cure it self after power it on again with the bootleg 3.61 spoof... but nevermind. this is like the universal fix for this semi bricks, just trying different pups till the console can flash it. (only if the service mode is working but in your case might be working man)
GO LUCK AND HAVE FUN UNBRICK'N THIS MESS AND REMEMBER ONCE ITS FIXED, IF YOU FLASH THE MODIFIED 3.41, ENTER AGAIN TO SERVICE MODE AND FLASH A 3.15. AND FROM THERE GO TO WHATEVER YOU WANT....THAT WAS YOUR MISTAKE, TO TRY TO UPGRADE FROM THE MODIFIED 3.41
I remember this now. for the red screens you need to flash the 2.80 or something near that to fix it, i dont know if thats the norm or what but you can try it if what i told you did not work (as long you have a console how came with and old firmware from factory, if not try the 3.15 or near)...

Do you get RSOD when entering recovery mode or when trying to update via recovery mode?
Also, is your console a NAND or NOR model?

@IXIstudiosDOTca,
Please excuse me if I misunderstood you, but you do know you are supposed to do this "blind" (with the monitor off). Good luck.
edit: duh. You meant that your console doesn't turn itself off when attempting factory service mode. Sorry about that.

I need help also. I get the red screen even when I try to enter recovery mode. After doing the recovery procedure, the ps3 trys to boot but says that the last update was interrupted and then tries to load...immediately after it starts the red screen pops up. HELP?!?!

I get the two screens in order that I gave screenshots for whether I try to turn it on normally, whether I try to enter Recovery Mode, or whether I try to enter Factory Service Mode, as I mentioned in the OP. I think the PS3 started to update to the 3.55 kmeaw firmware and then the red screen happened so every time it boots up it's still trying to install the update. Problem is my controller won't connect fast enough for me to try cancelling the update.
er, mine is a launch 60GB model - never heard those terms before; how do I check?
