Rebuilding database with CFW- Is my data safe?

I haven't exactly been able to find an answer with search, so I am wondering if it's possible to use rebuild database without losing all of my transferred info, such as the GAMES folder, or any installed packages. I used to do it on OFW once in a while to keep my ps3 at it's potential speed, and now I'm not sure if I can do it on kmeaw CFW without getting screwed over.

everything should be fine as I do it often, and also file structure, it helps optimise the system and doesn't touch homebrew/backups at all

Thanks, I'm going to go ahead and do it then as well as the file structure. I have my backups on a separate HDD in case of emergency, just hate to have to re-ftp all of it for a stupid mistake.

Good luck with this! I've done it twice trying to remove a corrupted data icon thanks to Multiman and both times had to format the HD and lost everything!

Ouch, luckily it worked for me so far. Only thing is it left a folder on the root of the ps3 called "lost+found" which I'm not sure if I can delete or not.

WAIT!! before you do this, backup your xregistry.sys It has your PSN info with and will keep your saved data and trophies registered to your account, so you won't have to do it through psn again. Rebuilding Database removes all psn data from the ps3

I think in time the PS3 clears that folder, not sure but I think it's like recycle bin in windows

orphaned files appear in there, basically if you shut down unclean and there are files that the PS3 does not know what to put, they go there.. think of it as a "holder" location because the original location is lost, or the file is corrupt.

I did that once, I thought the HDD was erasing. It does things to the HDD for sure, none of my data was lost in the end using a slim unit. Never tried a Phattie.
It removed the stale XMB links I do believe. Wasn't instant tho. after a boot and 2-3 min in the XMB they started disappearing. I also kept checking their info with triangle.. not sure if that made a difference. I know registry rebuild didn't do anything
lost+found is a mac/unix folder and I wouldn't touch it, it maybe wasting 4kb of HDD space. if you do happen to need that, I would then erase it. the system will likely just re-create it tho next boot.

Hmm I didn't backup xregistry but I didn't lose my saved data, no clue about PSN trophies, I never check them.
My system seems to be loading quicker now. The XMB icons used to stall for a while.
