Ah yes, I think I remember reading one of your posts about "my reflow method is the best, everyone else's is RETARDED".
Sorry, but I tend to ignore posts like that as I've never heard of a console being reflowed and lasting any longer than 6 maybe 8 months MAX.
Reflowing (with a proper oven) the unleaded crappy tin solder on these, you're telling me, lasts longer than 6 to 8 months with constant every day use on an already damaged system (5 to 6 hours play per day - maybe more in some house holds)?
If that's what you're saying then I do believe you're talking shit.
Welcome to my ignore list...

Reflowing will usually decrease the amount of time the ps3 runs each time. What I recommend is this. Do the oven trick to reflow. When it's done reflowing, don't turn the PS3 on for about 20-30 minutes. Get an intercooler (GameStop, EB Games, BestBuy, whatever) and use that to keep the insides somewhat cool. This will make the lead-free(stupid) solder stay hard longer. Apparently, lead is poisonous and can kill people, as if people are gonna be stupid enough open the ps3, evaporate the lead solder and sniff it.

I have been repairing BGA based devices for a long time. There is no reason a reflow, if done correctly will not last a while. A more definitive solution is definitly a reball however. Do not bother with the add-on cooling devices. The PS3's fan is more than sufficient to cool the console down. Adding these devices only makes the fan spin slower.
The issue here is not excessive heat, The issue is the console heating up when you turn it on, and cooling down when you turn it off. Lead-free solder does not cope with the thermal expansion as well as leaded solder, This is why these devices fail.
1. Don't reflow in an oven. Each component has a different melting point and cannot tolerate the heat required to reflow lead-free solder.
2. Bake-Out. Always give the boards and chips a bakeout as specified by the manufacturer (24-48 hours @ 90-110deg C). Do this first as it will straighten out the boards and prevent popcorning. This step is often overlooked by "professional repairers"
3. Always use decent no clean rework flux.
4. Use correct temperature control, Do not overheat and heat evenly. Use thermocouples and stick to reflow profiles from the manufacturer or standard profiles.

Yeah, but a reball is to risky/difficult. For right now until the OP feels up to the challenge to reball the best thing to do it to reflow. and like you said, never in an oven, the other (evil)lead-free solder will also turn into liquid and "move"

I think there'd be more concern about what happens to it after you throw it away

True, but scientifically speaking, a little lead is good for your kidneys. When you take in too much lead, it gets hazardous.
