A reflow will give you an extra 4 to 6 months of light gameplay if done properly. A reball needs to be done professionally as it falls at about 9.8 on a difficulty scale of one to ten.

I would study every tutorial before doing so, because every reflow you do on it has the potential to ruin the PS3 completely. If you're reflowing it a second and third time make sure you read over the requirements (flux ect) and have patience when doing it.

The more reflows you do, the more you'll potentially dry up the solder joints and ruin them further basically. I would not expect it to last as long after the second reflow.

I would think about backing up all your saves off the PS3 and buying a new one soon.

There will come a point when reflows will no longer get the PS3 working again, maybe after the second or third attempt.

I've done a reflow on my brothers recently and it's working fine. However no games will ever be played on it again due to the stress they put on the CPU and GPU causing the heat to ramp up. It's being used as a media player now.

Your difficulty scale is way off. Ive walked my 14 yr old brother through disassembling his PS3 and cooking it in the oven to reball it over the telephone. IMO, difficulty is about a 5 ... the hardest part being taking your console apart and putting it back together.

You can't reball solder joints by using an oven.

    thats a reflow,

reballing is the process of actually replacing the solder balls on the CELL or RSX BGA's.

which is extremely difficult if you dont have some sort of experience with low-level electronics or any knowledge of how to use a proper reflow station

He was clearly doing a reflow not a reball as he'd be required to remove the CPU and GPU from the board, remove the solder balls from the underside and replace the BGA (Ball Grid Array) with leaded solder, then he'd have to reattach those to the board with extreme precision and care.

A reball does fall about a 9.8, even with the proper equipment. A reflow comes in at about a 3 or 4 in comparison with patience and care being the key ingredient in a successful reflow.

this is the actual reballing procedure.. you will need a reballing template and a heat gun and a lot of experience and patience
