Does anyone know if it is possible to actually read a PS3 hdd externally from a CFW PS3 via FTP?

I am planning to get another PS3 for online play for my siblings, but was thinking on how to overcome two obstacles:

    1) Trophy Syncing
    2) Locked save games

If I get the legit PS3 and take the drive out and mount it externally via a usb adapter I am thinking that the CFW PS3 can read the system file via FTP and from there transfer the necessary changes over.

If anyone tried this please let me know so that I don't give any false hope to my siblings

    You have 3 options:

Backup/restore utility (might not get all of our save data)

    or

Use ftp or comgenie's file manager to get the folder "game" from the hdd and save it elsewhere and get the xregistry.sys from /dev_flash2/etc/. jailbreak the new ps3 (if possible) and overwrite the files on there with the copied folder/xregistry.sys

    or

    file transfer with ethernet cable
