yeah i expect you would...same as if losing power during any hardware firmware update. in short basically the system doesnt know how to boot up again after booting from a failed firmware update...then freaks out and either blue screens or some other spastic crap.

my opinion, do it anyway. the chances of losing power at the exact time and bla bla are extremely minimal. worst case it happens, just take it back to where you bought it and say you dont know what happened..or call sony (provided you dont already have a backup manager already on your ps3...in which case delete it before upgrading if your uber paranoid). its not *exactly* your fault if your neighborhood had a blackout the exact moment you put your "newly purchased" [insert game requiring 3.50 firmware here]

Nope, it will restart at the beginning of flash process itself.

Did cut the power yesterday by accident while flashing ps3 fat with 3.41 from 3.30. I almost sh*t my pants, but the system came up without problems and restarted the flash.

Props to Sony to have an idiot proofed system now

I assume the downgrade could overcome this issue though?

I went back to GameStop and exchanged it. I only had it a few hours when I had to update to play a new game.
