Questions R.E. 3.41 JB vs 3.55 CFW
Questions R.E. 3.41 JB vs 3.55 CFW –

Hi,
I am a long time 3.41 user comtemplating upgrading to 3.55 CFW, especially now that a downgrader has been released.
Primarily, I'd like to know if everything on my internal HDD will be safe/still functional if I decide to downgrade back to 3.41. I have a lot of backups and homebrew working perfect on 3.41 I'd like to retain if I choose to go back to 3.41.
I don't see how anything on there wouldn't work if I was to downgrade back to 3.41, but there could be something I'm missing. I just want to upgrade to 3.55 to play some of my games online, but ultimately want to go back to 3.41 in the long run.
I heard the previous 3.50 downgrader formatted the HDD on slim consoles (which I own) if so this isn't worthwhile to me.
Cheers.

Same here. I been thinking about taking the 3.55 plunge, but AFAIK, as with previous downgrades, the HDD gets wiped. On most consoles, I read somewhere on here that the early FATs the bluray will be knackered but those 256mb nand units wont have their HDDs formatted upon downgrade.
Don`t take my word as gospel though as I`ve got a slim. It isn`t the downgrading thats the biggie, its losing all your working backups and apps in the process.
BM`s don`t work apart from multiman I think and that only works for direct boot games (and I`m assuming ripping to HDD)
A lot of messing round and if your PS3 is used my simpletons (like mine is) I think we better off on 3.41 with 3.55 spoof
I think...

Do what i did get an other cheap ps3 and play up and downgrades with that one as 3.55 is still not stable IMO

I heard the opposite. In that fat consoles are safe from the downgrade formatting your HDD but Slims were at risk as they would 9 times out of 10 format your drive.

Well said, I have no interest in upgrading to 3.55 only to downgrade one day and lose all the stuff on it. Upgrading to 3.55 CFW is only worthwhile to me knowing I can downgrade back to 3.41 should I want to and retain everything I have now fully working.

You prob right mate. Just thought that a few of the early fats kept their HDD contents after a downgrade (the ones with large nands/bluray corruption probs).
Certainly my slim loses everything when I downgrade.

No, that's what I mean mate, to my knowledge; fat systems don't format on downgrade. Slims do.
I don't think anything has changed from the 3.55 downgrade method? Although I hope I'm wrong. Anyone with a Slim console managed to downgrade without losing their internal HDD contents?
There is a workaround which involves two hard drives and swapping between them to avoid losing your shit, but it's not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Or just keep everything on a fat32 external, which causes probs when files are bigger than 4.3gb
I`d be interested in a workaround, but I thought the firmware was kept on the hard drive (they have 16mb nands for this reason I think). The fats with the 256mb nands have the whole firmware on this nand which I`m guessing is why the HDD doesn`t get wiped?
I`m still learning

There's always the backup option inbuilt to the ps3 you could use. Just copy out your GAMES folder then use the function (it's nestled under settings). When I downgraded my slim, it formatted, but luckily, I had my backup. 20 minutes to restore and everything was back where it belonged!

as of yet every function except backup playback (yes direct boot DOES NOT WORK) on multiMAN works on 3.55, Dean (author) was one of the forerunners of the EBOOT package method and I believe he still has something under his sleave

I have no patience to change all eboot.bin of my games, only waiting a final CFW and Multiman 100% working to jump to 3.55 !!
