the QA flag is ONLY if you have downgraded before. If not, its not mandatory.
I dont know if you really need to have a working bd drive to make the qa flag work.
I actually have the same question. I have a ps3 with broken BD and the only way for me to update to rogero 3.55 was with a firmware that had BD skip on it. Does the new 4.3 versions of any of the CFW have BD skip?
