Questions about PS3 internal hard drives.
Questions about PS3 internal hard drives. –

My PS3 recently died with a YLOD. I sent it off to a console repair service but unfortunately they were unable to fix it so it has been returned to me. A friend is willing to sell me his PS3. Both consoles are hacked with Kmeaw CFW. I have two questions I would like to ask but apologise in advance. I know my first question has been answered somewhere but I can't find any recent answers so not sure if the information I have found is accurate.
My first question: Has anybody found a way of moving a hard drive from one PS3 to another without having to format it?
My second question: If I take the HDD out of my broken PS3 and put it into an external caddy, will the new PS3 be able to read it without formatting it first?
I understand that the PS3 uses a proprietary file format so the hard drive can't be read in a PC etc and also that NTFS is not truely supported but I haven't seen any information anywhere about using a PS3 internal hard drive as an external one. the purpose of all this is mainly to retrieve save data etc off the old hard drive and copy it over to the new ps3.
Thanks in advance,
Zoomer

I think in order for the drive to work in another PS3, you need to remove the decryption on the drive with QA Flag mode in the original console before transferring it. Seeing that the original console is dead, I dont think that will work sorry.

Thanks for the reply. I knew it was a long shot but thought it was worth asking. I follow the scene quite closely so figured I would have seen something if any of this was possible. but things do occasionally slip by unnoticed so thought I would ask the questions.
thanks again.

No worries. We don't mind questions from users who have at least attempted to find their answer. Its just frustrating when the same question gets asked religiously
