Questions about changing CFW.......
Questions about changing CFW....... –
I am running :
120 gig Slim - 3.55-kmeaw - LV2 Patcher v9
I am wanting to install the "special.pup" and the .pkg file to get QA Flag on my console so that I can downgrade. This is to prepare for Jaicrab's CFW, which will be 3.41. I understand the process as far as going back to OFW, then "special.pup", then .pkg, then back to 3.55-kmeaw...But will I lose any of my back-ups/apps on my internal if they arent saved to an external?
Also trying to find a legit link for the "special.pup" and .pkg file for QA Flagging....All the links in the stick threads are dead. Google was no help. Anyone know where to get these?
One last thing.....I was thinking of switching from 3.55-kmeaw to 3.55.2 Rebug....I have had kmeaw's CFW since the day it hit...No issues with it at all, but I kinda want to run Rebug to try it out. Any input on this? Any compatability issues?
If anyone has done what I'm describing or knows anything about my questions, I would appreciate your thoughts/input/ideas.
So you want to downgrade from 3.55 to 3.41. There are two ways, service mode way and the QA way. The service mode way is much easier and simpler in my opinion. And to set up QA is pretty complex for the average user. And as for losing back ups/games etc. Downgrading only formats the HDD on NOR models, so all Slims and Phat CECHH and on you will have your HDD wiped. But if you are using a NOR model you can use the Backup/Restore option in system settings to make a back up now and restore after downgrading. Or for a much simpler way just get a spare HDD any size, Switch it out with the one in your PS3,. Downgrade with the new empty one, then switch back. <-- That method would not work on NAND models because I think they can only "own" one HDD at a time while a NOR can "own" 2(+?)

Or use the QA one somewhere on this site...
Oh, and make sure your PS3 able to downgrade to 3.41. You can check what the lowest firmware your PS3 can downgrade to by trying the v1.01 .pup through the xmb update and it'll say.
And if your PS3 is a NAND model, BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR BLURAY PLAYBACK. (DEV_FLASH2) OR YOU WILL LOSE IT!!!!
You can just use the rebug 3.55.2 otheros version to qa flag. However it has issues with various games, so if you plan to continue using rebug, i suggest switching to the regular 3.55.2 after you qa flag.
Any ps3 can use as many hdds as you want, they just need to be formatted so it can be encrypted with the ps3's specific encryption key.

Not really. You just flash a .pup, run a .pkg, enable an option, then flash the new .pup in recovery mode. It requires a few minutes of waiting for the .pup to install, then 10 seconds of looking through the debug settings.

So, I'm gonna have to reinstall multiMAN, Showtime, VBA, ect, ect? Ouch that sucks. Are you guys running Rebug 3.55.2? Is it worth switching over from kmeaw?
