Question regarding Cobra USB and copy protection

I have a question for Cobra USB owners regarding PS1 games that don't work on PS3 because of copy protection, such as Final Fantasy 8. Has anyone tried a game like this? And if so, did it work? If it didn't, did the copy protection fix work?

AFAIK cobra USB works only with PSX backups, not PSN games

I was talking about disk games and applying any copy protection fixes once backed up.
